Thank you very much for this great video and instruction. Grateful for how thorough you are - I've always seemed to "soak in" best via audio, so the videos with basically just visual I don't find very helpful. Am referring to your site as well. Will add how surprising it is to a beginner how amazingly crooked a block can end up! After I thought I cut straight, stitched (fairly) straight. Pretty sure my "squaring up" will take a good 4-5 afternoons 😆

I am looking into turning my uncle's old aloha shirts into quilts. I have never quilted before. Any suggestions or how to get started would be great.

What a coincidence. I just made a modified log cabin about 4 inches finished, but slightly wedge shaped (designing a quilt using my stash and various block designs). I did mine by making a paper-piece design due to the odd shape and narrow strips roughly half inch wide. Only did two strips deep. I also used a small square-in-square and a heart. Instead of splitting the heart in the center vertically I attached the top bumps as a horizontal piece so my florals had a larger complete area.

Great hints. I used freezer paper strips to stabilize some bias cut blocks while attaching a border. Quick to apply and remove. Can't take credit, saw it on Karen's Just Get It Done Quilts. Works great. I keep a 5 inch Go-iron beside me when doing paper-piecing or lots of small pieces so I can frequently press. Was using a tall box beside my chair with a covered piece of wood as a small table but had to move it under the sew table at night. Just got a metal plant caddy with 4 casters at Dollarama to put under it so I can roll it away. My next crazy sewing helper will be a lazy susan with marbles, cake pans and a pizza pan! And covering my hangers with pool noodles to protect my flimsies until they get quilted. People are so full of ideas! 😊

Batiks are cheap thin fabric, thats why both sides are the same. They fade easily and they are a fad because they are stiff and almost plastic like and are easy to sew. You can see theough most of it unless the dye is dark. Dont buy this garbage! Its a lazy sewers dream. Use good name brand cotton that wears well and last. This stuff bleeds like crazy!

I like the weather vane and the star burst blocks the best! You explan how you do these blocks very well.

I had so much fun watching this video. I was in a quilting desert and now ready to go again!
